Formed in 2003 under the name Odd Eye, Bloody Cookie is a 4 piece female indie rock band from South Korea. After a couple shows in Hongdae and the participation at some festivals, they released their first single 無毒花 (무독화!/Nonpoisonous Flower) in 2005.
Even though their main inspiration seems to come from the gothic scene, it’s hard to categorize Bloody Cookie`s music. There are definitely also some minor progressive rock as well as grunge influences and somehow the songs from 無毒花 remind me a little of early The Gathering and Dreams of Sanity stuff. Their songs create a dreamlike, dark atmosphere, yet still rely too much on the rocking guitar to be classified as gothic. Binna’s powerful and melodic voice completes the nearly flawless musical skills of the band.
Exceptional for a (first) DIY release are the high production standard and the complexity of their songs. A few more songs and a little more variety would have made this release a real killer.
